As you all may know, Jetfire is the most sought-after figure in the ROTF toy line, and his features absolutely justify it. Pretty much everyone else covered the main points, so I'll just list the pros and cons.
Pros:
- Transforms into an SR-71 Blackbird. (One of the sickest aircraft designs in history.)
- Robot mode is very accurate to the film version, such as the hunched-over posture, head, and cane.
- Alt mode is huge. The Blackbird is at least 18 inches long and looks amazing on your shelf, details and all.
Cons:
- The toy has an odd blue body, while in the movie it was solid black.
- Transformation is fairly difficult. Seriously. I spent over 20 minutes looking at the instructions before I finally pulled it off.
- There is quite a bit of kibble underneath, which kinda sucks. However, the alt mode is so massive that in the end it's really not that bad.
Simply put, grab this figure as soon as you see him (or you'll be waiting for weeks until he restocks, and even then you'll have to be lucky). Hopefully they make a premium/voyager version that justifies the cons, but overall the pros outweigh everything else. You won't be disappointed.
I don't think I would have gotten this figure if I hadn't seen Optimus combining with Jetfire in the movie. Now that I have him in my hands, as ugly as he is (he's an old man-ish transformer), he's starting to grow on me.
One of the things that I have to say is that these Transformers today are a lot more complicated and delicate as compared to the Transformers back in the 80's. Jetfire is no exception.
These toys are meant for collectors and adults, and kids with gentle hands. Don't give these to excited kids - they'll snap off the arms by accident and be done with it.
Anyway, the first time I transformed him, it took me over an hour. The trickiest part for me was being able to combine the arms together to form the cockpit of the plane. But once I got that down, it was pretty easy. I can now transform the thing in less than 3 minutes. You just need to be aware of the nuances of the hinges and little twisty joints for the arms and legs.
The one thing I notice is that the plane curves a bit. Not sure why this is, but it doesn't go completely straight like how a real plane would. This happens to be the way it is manufactured though - I mean look at the stock photo on this page! Can you see the slight curving of the plane?
YAY or NAY? YAY - it's pretty solidly built, a little tricky to transform in the beginning, and provided you're careful enough, won't break. The plane mode is pretty awesome too, even though it curves a bit.
this toy is alot of fun i recommend this i was lucky to get it real ceap on amazon instead of paying over $[...] for this toy its very cool how it combines with leader class optimus prime to form power up optimus prime; get this toy before its gone im looking foward to getting devistator next ill be getting him at the end of the month
Wow, what an awesome product. What detail there is to it. It also very easy to pose once you tinker with it and figure out. It also extremely easy to Transform, especially when you put in comparison to Optimus Prime and Mix Master. Some of the pices snap of really easily while transforming the figure, however that is to prevent any pieces breaking, you can easily snap them back on. I just can't believe what a great job Hasbro did with this product. In Vehicle Mode his parts aren't very well concealed however, and when in Vehicle mode he is very long.
Now I already had Optimus Prime, so what a great surprise to learn that you can put both of them together just like in the movie. It is very easy to prep both fugure to combine, however it was pretty difficult for me to actually put them together. This is because it is an extremely tight fit. Once I put them together it looked great. Do not expect to pose the figure once you put them together, the legs are locked in place.
Overall a great figure to purchase. I would recommend this for anyone who loves Transformers, you won't be dissappointed.
Hasbro has done a good job with the latest toys in the Transformers line. The ROTF line is no exception. These toys are awesome. Very complex for the most part and loads of fun for all ages. Leader Jetfire absolutely rocks. Nice mid-level complexity. Very good Alt Mode. The SR-71 is an awesome sight on your shelf. The paint app is wonderful (especially like the little Northrup Skunk Works logo). In Robot Mode he's pretty movie accurate. Like other reviewers have said there is lots of room for you to mod or change things to get him just the way you want him. But the cream here for me is his Combiner mode. It's great. Very "heavy" and powerful looking. It's an awesome display mode. Last thing, do not pay the scalper prices for this guy. Yeah he's kinda hard to find right now but he's out there for the normal Hasbro retail price, just keep looking.
